Project Type: Sports and Recreation- new commercial construction
Location: Monroe Township, New Jersey
Background:
In order to attract new membership and address the needs of current members a location within the clubhouse campus was selected for a new pool, snack bar, locker rooms and a fitness center. The new building needed to feel visually united with the clubhouse and other small buildings.
The Solution:
Four distinct chimneys and two gables provided the appropriate scale and massing to compliment the other buildings. This concept was supported with appropriate materials, trimmings and colors. The fitness club looks out over the pool from the second floor and is protected by a strong three part two level porch. This porch provides the appropriate transitions from the public to private, exposed to protected, and its classical proportions lend a sense of monumentality to this otherwise informal place.
Role: Design development, detailing, construction documents, and construction management in the office of Kennedy-Grant.
